Inspiration
Many people seeking a role model turn to the animal kingdom for inspiration. Nothing wrong with that.

English is full of phrases to inspire you. Be bold like a lion. Soar like an eagle. Do long division like a polar bear.

So which is right for you? I say none of them, because copying these creatures will get you nowhere.

Something different
You need to be something different. Something no one is expecting. Which brings me to the rabbit.

I’ve watched these creatures on TV, with their fake sincerity. Frankly, I don’t trust them and neither should you.

Meet a lion or bear and you’re on your guard. Meet one of these long-eared fakers and you relax, because they seem harmless. What an advantage that gives them.

And get this. Right now I don't know anyone who is trying to be a rabbit.

Business leaders
Speak to business leaders, scientists or artists. When did you ever hear them say, ". . . and my success is entirely due to my decision to adopt the personal characteristics of a rabbit"?

You never hear that. Which tells me there’s an opportunity here to be exploited. And that dear Otisians is the whole point of this role model article.

Of course you don’t have to pick a rabbit, but what you must do is pick something different.
